Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Heart Foundation gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
Before I let you know the event I am going to do, I would like to let you know why I'm doing it for the British Heart Foundation.
It seems like a life time ago, 21 years to be exact (I was only 13) when my Dad, Kenneth, at the age of 48, died of a heart attack. He had suffered from angina for a number of years before this.
The British Heart Foundation are there to help people in similar situations to my Dad so I thought it was appropriate to try and help whichever way I could. I'm now a Dad of three myself and because heart disease is one of Britain's biggest killers, I would love to think that doing something positive for this charity could prevent more children growing up without the trauma of losing a parent.
First, I decided to do the Great North run half marathon (13 miles), but then I decided to do it with a bit of a twist.
So, on the Monday 6th of September I am setting off from home to take part in the Great North Run. However, it doesn't take place until Sunday 19th so you're probably wondering why I am setting off so early.
I've decided I am going to cycle from Whitehaven, down the west coast to Southampton then back up the east coast to Newcastle. Hopefully I will get there for the 19th of September for the run.
The total estimated distance is between 800 - 1000 miles and that means cycling an average of 75 hard miles in the saddle per day for 12 days (with a well earned rest day before the run)
I am doing the cycle ride alone and with no support. Being a novice to biking and bike maintenance there might be a bit of choas ahead but I'm sure I will complete it somehow!!
I'm calling the ride "The coast 2 coast 2 coast"
A special thanks to my family (wife Lucy and kids Joe, Millie and Lauren) for supporting me and making it possible to do this.
Thanks for looking. I'm pushing the boat out to complete this challenge so if you can, please dig as deep as possible and do the same with your donation.
Cheers!
Jonathan
