For any number of reasons, being invited to do participate in the Strictly Dancing Ball for Teens Unite is one of those experiences you do not understand you need in your life, until it drops in your lap. Well, not any number, three reasons in fact. 

The first is that the prospect genuinely scares me. And doing something that scares you is never a bad thing. Indeed it is - nearly - always a good thing. To step out of your zone. And this is not so much a step out of my zone as a missile launch. 

Second reason, I'm old enough to have known many people very dear to me who have experienced the ordeal of cancer. I'd like to put real effort, (please have no doubt, this, for me, will be a real effort), into something that, even in some minuscule way, acknowledges their struggles.

And, the third and by far most important reason, I'm really touched by the aims of this particular charity. It seems to me to target not one but two neglected aspects of this terrible disease; the first is an affected age group that is often overlooked - teens. And the second a sometimes under-appreciated aspect of the disease at work, which is its impact on mental health. 

So, sign me up! 

Hang on. I've already signed up...

Because for you, TEENS UNITE, I'm ready to follow the road, wherever it may lead - be it chest wax and spray tan, or top hat and tails.

I'd say it's got to be worth a contribution to see me take on either!
