October 16th 2016 our little Matilda Whetlor was born at 23 weeks & 6 days, weighing 1lb 6oz.
From this point on the work of every single person from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) made it possible for our little bruiser Matilda to be with us today.
Matilda was the smallest little baby I have ever seen easily fitting into 1 hand, the circumference of her foot was smaller than my little finger and she didn’t have any eye lids she was so premature.
108 days later Matilda was ready to go home weighing a whopping 5lb
The NICU is a world that you wouldn’t know exists unless you or someone you know has been part of it. The work they do is truly amazing and to see Matilda grow and be cared for from the tiny baby she was to when we left was unreal and I cannot thank everyone involved enough.
So I’ve decided to take on my toughest challenge yet! Competing the trek in 24 hours from Hillingdon hospital where I was born to the Willian Harvey hospital where Matilda was born.
73 miles, according to maps takes 1 day 2 hours to walk so the pressure is on!
My good friend Mr Jody Dalton heard I was doing this, kindly offered to tag along and take on this challenge with me. He has also recruited Adam Casey, Adam Goodman & Stevie Denton Stuart Scoates James Sayers Josh Dalton
We all have a charity very close to our hearts for one reason or another, I think this is probably the longest and most emotional bit of writing I have had to do and that any of you would have read from me.
Donate what you can, like share the page come support us along the way if you can!
We will be leaving Hillingdon hospital at 10am on Saturday 20th October and aiming to arrive at the William Harvey hospital Sunday the 21st by 10am.
I have arranged a cake sale at the William Harvey hospital from 10:00 - 12:00 if anyone would like to come down.
