Story
My challenge may have long since been achieved, but fundraising to help relieve poverty in the Penzance area is ongoing.
As at 23rd September 2022, Penzance Rotary has today committed a further £13,000 to help young families experiencing deprivation just as we head into a winter of unprecendented difficulty for many.
Please donate via this Justgiving page at anytime if you would like to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

I have challenged myself to take up running again during August (I am now 62 and it's 11 years since I ran regularly) and then intend to complete ten 6 mile Runs during September. 6 miles (9,600 metres) is the distance along the coast from my home to Mousehole Harbour and back again.
Why am I doing it?
Not being able to buy your next days food seems unthinkable for most of us but its actually happening in hundreds of households here in the far west of Cornwall. Imagine, yesterday you found out that your work had stopped, today you get a sinking feeling when you discover that you don't qualify for unemployment benefit and you haven't met the criteria for a business grant. You've enough money to last three or four days - then what. Young mums become malnourished because they are giving the food they have to their children. The children's shoes have worn through, but they'll have to wait, and today the washing machine broke down. Parents have had their self-esteem knocked out of them, they harbor thoughts of inadequacy and desperation. They turn to sources of credit with no means of making repayments. Tensions in some households are at breaking point.
Our money can relieve food-poverty, reduce anxiety and prevent domestic breakdowns.
One recent letter of thanks said . . .
“Thank you so much for your donation, it had a massive impact. £500 of the £1000 went to a family who were already vulnerable and in hardship when one parent passed away, the remaining parent unknown to us was selling items from her house on Facebook just to pay for the funeral and both her and our Head teacher ended up in tears when she took her the cheque and heard how hard it has been for them financially."
