Story
Thank you for coming this far, please read on for more about what I am doing and why I am doing it.
Most people will have seen the effects of cancer in their own lives or in the lives of those that they love. When I was fairly young my mum was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully after a lot of fighting and sacrifices as well as incredible medical care, she pulled through and managed to beat it. Only since having grown up and then seeing the mortality rates and typical course that cancer takes have I been truly able to appreciate how fortunate my mum was for making it through.
There are many different charities aimed at supporting those with cancer which are absolutely vital; they help to give hope to the the increasingly hopeless. My mum received such immediate support and help during her journey and it always has a profound effect irrespective of the eventual outcome. However, not everyone is as fortunate as my mum, not by a long shot. Whether people make it through or not, how they live during their battle with cancer matters and as such I will donate any money that I raise to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Ultimately whether I have suffered from cancer, or whether I know someone that has, doesn’t matter. It is the fact that an estimated 33% of people will suffer from it and the support given by Macmillan can make all the difference.
In attempt to garner more support I will be walking this 55 mile route around Greater Manchester and, upon completing it, will then be playing in a hockey match the next day. If you would like to go that little bit further, why not sponsor me for every post-trek goal I manage to score in the match?
Thank you for reading. Any amount that you can give will be much appreciated by myself and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Cheers,
Jon
