Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On 2nd July 2015 we gave birth to a beautiful baby boy called Rory, he arrived 6 weeks early and within a month of being born was diagnosed with a rare kidney disorder. The effects of this disorder means that he had to take numerous medication on a daily basis to replace everything he lost through his kidneys (approximately 20 a day), it also meant that he picked up infections easily.
In the early days, Rory was in intensive care on 3 separate occasions, had 7 blood transfusions and had 3 procedures (one being the removal of one of his kidneys.) He suffered seizure’s and developed 5 blood clots which resulted in him spending a week in intensive care. We nearly lost him at one point and it was a tremendously difficult time for my family.
Rory, spent the first two years of his life nearly entirely in hospital, he then came home but was in and out with various complications, he then had an extended period on Dialysis after his kidney’s were removed.
Finally on 29th January 2019, Rory was strong enough to have kidney transplant and is now doing really well, attending school finally and making up for lost time, he is still cared for by BCH with regular check up’s and is a well-known character around the renal ward (ward 1.) Rory will remain under BCH’s care until he is an adult and we will have further challenges ahead but we will forever be so thankful to everyone at BCH for there support.
All the nurses, doctors, consultants and playworkers really are fantastic and do an amazing job on a daily basis. Birmingham is very lucky to have such a superb hospital and it is all the staff that make it so special.
Not only do they look after sick children but they recognize the pressure it can put on families and therefore also provide support and care to families and siblings in stressful times.
In order to raise money for this wonderful place, myself and a group of friends are going to attempt the 100Km Peak District Challenge which consists of a continuous walking loop across the Peak District, walking through the night, likely taking in excess of 24 hours!
We are looking for you all to sponsor us. Any donations we raise will be put towards new equipment which is so desperately needed by ill children at the hospital.
Thank you all for your support and kind donations, it means a lot to us and all the staff and children of BCH
