I am running the 2013 London Marathon in aid of a charity very close to my heart, and one that has helped my family in recent times, Heads Up.

As some of you may be aware, my father was diagnosed with neck cancer in December 2012 and has since undergone major surgery. The surgery has gone well, however further treatments and radiotherapy are still to come. We are fairly fortunate, as hopefully, by the time I come to run the marathon Dad will have finished treatment and be able to come and support me, and share some more champagne!! His particular condition looks very optimisitc.

Heads Up funds pioneering research that concentrates solely on head and neck cancer. By learning more about this group of diseases they seek to find ways to prevent them, and to develop new treatments that result in fewer life-changing side effects.

Of the 8,000 people who develop head and neck cancer in England and Wales each year, over half will be cured. But current treatment methods can have a devastating effect on the lives of patients, affecting their ability to speak, eat, taste, smell or see. Your generous donation will help to research new and less evasive treatments.

I am sure you will all agree that this is a fantastic cause, so any donations will be greatly received!!
