Story
In July 2021 one of my childhood hero's, my nan, sadly passed away. Throughout her life she was a force of positivity and kindness for all who met her fostering 22 children and adopting my mum with the help of charities such as Barnardos. To continue her legacy and honour her memory I would love to contribute to a cause which I know was so close to her own heart.
In several years hopefully I will begin the journey of starting a family myself and as having a biological child is not an option, adoption will be an avenue that we will consider. As the largest not-for-profit fostering and adoption agency in the UK I am keen to support an organisation that will directly support people like me help children who are in desperate need of a loving home find parents who are ready and willing to provide this.
Barnardo’s also work with supporting children seeking asylum through providing interpreters, clothing and healthcare alongside other support. This is my 7th year in the education sector working with vulnerable students who seem to continually not receive enough support. The school in which I work is near Heathrow and recently we have seen an influx of students from Afghanistan and Ukraine who are seeking refuge and asylum. Despite their positive attitudes, hearing their stories has moved me to action and made me think about what more can be done by me to support these students.
For these reasons I will be running the London Marathon on 2nd October to raise money for Barnados. I would be grateful for any support that you can spare!
