Story
Thank you for visiting my London Marathon fundraising page! I am running for Refuge to raise funds and awareness for survivors of domestic abuse.
A little about me. I have always wanted to run a marathon but the timing was never right. When I got the opportunity to take this place to run the marathon for Refuge, a key partner of my employer the Co-operative Bank, it all came together.
Firstly, I am currently in training for a separate challenge, Man vs Mountain, in September 2021, so in theory I should already be well progressed through a training programme (although an energetic 18 month old is making this difficult!), so a marathon in October will be challenging but a great target to aim for.
Secondly, and far more importantly, Refuge is a charity that is extremely close to me and my wife. My wife Charlotte is a domestic abuse researcher and activist, so I know the harms that this type of violence causes. Domestic abuse will affect 1 in 4 women at some point in their lives and 2 women a week are killed by a current or former partner in the UK, statistics which have only worsened during the pandemic. Refuge is a vital charity that supports women and children who experience domestic abuse and it has been a lifeline for so many people over the many years it has been established. Financial support to charities like this can be the difference between women and children having a safe place to stay, or facing the dangerous consequences of having to go back to their abuser.
Your donations will help Refuge provide services such as the freephone National Domestic Abuse Helpline which is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Thank you and wish me luck!
