Story
Hi my name is Jonny, and I am the Team leader of the Hoofstock section at Edinburgh Zoo. As you are aware, our Zoo has been shut since the 23rd of March when the lockdown started. This has been a very trying time for the zoo with income no longer coming in. Everyone is doing there bit to keep positivity up in these unusual times and to find ways in which to raise awareness and increase fundraising to help us look after our animals.
This lead to a discussion, in which Karen (Always a Karen in those Meme’s, and we have our own) our senior keeper came up with the idea and subsequently has volunteered the Hoofstock team all to spend some time in our Rhino pool to help raise money for the Zoo. (We didn’t take much persuading if I’m honest)
So we have come up with a 2.6 Challenge, in which 6 Hoofstock Keepers (Myself, Karen, Gillian, Jamie, Liah and Bryony) will
running through and submerging ourselves in the outdoor pool of our 2 Greater One Horned
rhinos 26 times at a total distance of 520m's each to get a combined total of over 2.6km as a team.. We will be dressed in uniform, with some added themed items and will have to continue our day afterwards…..after all the animals still need to be looked after a zookeepers job is never really finished.
If we exceed our Donation target by 50% we will increase the combined total to 2.6 miles.
This will be done over a live stream on the 25th of June on Edinburgh Zoos Facebook page.
