London Landmarks Half Marathon for DocBike Dorset

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2023 · 2 April 2023 ·
Having completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon (in 2019 and 2021) I was pleased to be successful in gaining a place in the 2023 LLHM event.
In 2019 I ran for Moorfields Eye Hospital and in 2021 I ran for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
For 2023 I’m running for DocBike Dorset. Dorset was the birthplace of the UK’s DocBike charity and is also where the DocBike HQ is located.
On average, six motorcyclists are killed and nearly 100 seriously injured EVERY WEEK in the UK. Over 19,000 motorcyclists are injured on our roads each year. Because of the forces involved when a motorcyclist is involved in a collision at speed, their injuries are often catastrophic, or fatal.
As a keen motorcyclist who was once in need of assistance after a van driver hit me (while on his mobile phone) I can fully appreciate the valuable support that the DocBike riders provide to bikers and also to other people in need of emergency care across the UK.
The DocBike charity combines a highly qualified (consultant level) doctor or critical care paramedic with two wheels to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our roads due to motorcycle collisions. Wherever possible, this doctor or paramedic also works on the local air ambulance. It is part of their every-day job, to treat and save the most severely injured and sick patients and help them to reach hospital alive.
Space is at a premium on the motorcycle, so any equipment carried onboard needs to be compact, vibration resistant and waterproof. The bikes are equipped with a variety of devices including the Philips Tempus Monitor and ALS Defribulators and I therefore wanted to promote the work of the DocBike organization and their collaboration with Philips.
Please join me in spreading the word!
