Story
I am taking part in this year’s Great Birmingham Run in support of the patients, staff, students and researchers at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham. All donations made in support of my fundraising venture will be utilised to enhance the care given to
patients as well provide specialist knowledge, wellbeing support and teaching to the staff who work there.
Last year I spent a month at the hospital and I want to play a small part in ensuring that they continue to provide such quality care.
My problems started in September 2020, with some shoulder and neck pain leading to paralysis in my arms and constant pain by December.
After a scan on January 8th 2021, I was rushed to The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. It was then discovered that I had been suffering from an infection, which had attacked the vertebrae in my neck.
I underwent an operation to remove the infected bone in my neck and replace it with metal framework. I stayed in hospital until I was strong enough to undergo a second operation to support my weakened spine. The expert care I received throughout the month that I was in hospital was amazing; I am back home with my family and able to take part in this event because of the first class professionals that work there.
