Story
Well, that was fun - in a weird way! The weather on Sunday was great for watching and not bad for running. There was a very moving 30 second silence at 9:57 followed by a mass release of emotions and nerves as we hit the countdown to 10am.
The first 5 miles were great. Everyone getting rid of pre-race nerves and not realising that the aches and pains where literally just around the corner. The spectators were incredible from start to finish and really do inspire you to keep moving forward and not have a moment of sanity - what am I doing!!
After 4:06:18 I crossed the line. The highlights of my day were the start, the finish and taking my trainers off in the rest area in St James's Park.
I'm still a little short of my fundraising goal so if you're stil reading after the above waffle, then plough on for another couple of minutes and see why I made my feet bleed! Thank you.
I am aiming to raise £2000 for the YMCA. 50% will go to the National YMCA to help them continue the great work they do and the remaining 50% will go to Reigate & Redhill YMCA. This is run by a good, old friend of mine Ian Burks. Ian used to run the Crouch End/Hornsey YMCA and has probably touched many of your lives without you knowing it. Ian started the CE 10K/Fun Run which takes place in Priory Park each year.
Ian gave me a tour of the Reigate facilities and they are fantastic. 4 different buildings spread around the area with facilities including Childrens day centres, accomodation, disabilty centre, Fitness etc etc. As you can tell, I think Ian does an incredible job that touches and improves thousands of lives. So after seeing this, a bit of jogging around in the snow doesn't seem such a big deal!
I've seen it in action and anything you donate will actually make a difference.
Thanks
