Story
Eighteen months ago as I was recovering from what was a life changing experience, emerging thankfully from Intensive Care, Marianne my wife signed us up not only for the Sahara Rocks Challenge but also closer to home the 177 miles of Offa's Dyke Rocks Challenge with Love Hope Strength to raise much needed funds for Cancer projects. Unfortunately C-19 put paid to those plans and having been ‘shielding’ for over a year and in strict lock-down until the 3 April my recovery has been slow. Although I’m not strong enough yet to join Mike and Jules Peters (of the rock band The Alarm and co-founders of The Love Hope Strength Foundation) in completing the full 177 miles I’m committing to undertake: Option 1 of the virtual challenge - 10,000 steps on 4 of the 12 days over Offa’s Dyke Rocks (between Saturday 22nd May and Saturday 5th June) carrying my guitar and strumming a few chords under 4 x Anglesey Lighthouses. Capturing the spirit of Love Hope Strength - Saving Lives one Concert at a Time. Not the scale of Challenge we’ve previously undertaken in support of Mike & Jules and the Love Hope Strength Foundation - remembering North Wales By Your Side Walk, Snowdonia Rocks and of course our highlight The Canyons Rock USA but, in it’s own way this will be a bigger challenge as I tentatively emerge one small step at a time into the big wide World.
I'm passionate about Love Hope Strength (LHS) because the charity is committed to giving hope to people living with cancer across the globe. Through its "Get On The List" programme, LHS helps identify marrow donors to match those in need of a second chance of life ...... so far approx 4,500 of those who have registered in this way have been identified as potential life saving matches. LHS also supports life saving and life changing equipment and special projects aimed at supporting some of the most vulnerable people affected by cancer internationally.
The LHS co-founders (Mike & Jules Peters) and many of those involved in the charity have their own experiences of living with a cancer diagnosis. In order to make a lasting difference for others, LHS has pledged to work with partner organisations that provide insight into their evidence-based research and who share their knowledge to help advance cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and care.
If you are interested in more details of what the funds raised will go toward, please see the "Offa's Dyke Rocks 2021 (run by LHS)" link on the right hand side of this page, and at the bottom of this page.
Every penny I raise will go to LHS to support these programmes and projects.
I expect everyone is inundated with requests for charity donations, but even a small amount would be very gratefully received by me and LHS. Thank you so much.
