Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in memory of John L Porter.
John was a very well known, universally liked and respected member of the Industrial Agents Society, sadly taken from us too soon.
With his great sense of humour, penchant for loud socks, caps and outrageous shirt and tie combos, he is sorely missed by all that knew him.
We have just completed our cycling event from London to Southend to raise money for the British Heart Foundation in John's memory.
The team members included:- Will Herman, Victoria Walker, David Saunders and myself. A well honed team of finely tuned athletes....................were not available, so we just did our best!
We did it! See photographic evidence in the gallery.
After an 8.15am start from sunny Stratford, we cycled out of East London and into the green Essex countryside. A surprisingly beautiful ride.
Got there OK by 2.15pm, the weather had been fine, albeit warm and muggy. Then the heavens opened as we cycled to Southend Central station and we got drenched. On the train back home, the thunder and lightning resulted in a signal failure and we got stuck on the train for nearly 2 hours. When we finally got to Shenfield, there were no trains back to Ingatestone, so we had to cycle home the last 5 miles in torrential rain.
With soggy lycra and sore backsides, I knew that John would be looking down and laughing his head off, which made me smile!
We raised £3,315 for the British Heart Foundation in John’s memory. Thank you all for your generous support., for which we are very grateful and makes it all worthwhile.
