Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This photo of Jack was taken by his eldest grand-daughter, Jenny, on April 10th 2012 - exactly a year before his funeral.

Although he was suffering with vascular dementia, Jack always lit up when the grandchildren visited him in the care home. We think he'd be the first to suggest donations to the Walton Centre in recognition of all of the support they've given to Jenny since, out of the blue, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the end of January. After 10 weeks in the Walton Centre and five operations she's now back home and starting on the road to recovery.

Twenty years earlier Jack had himself received treatment at the Pain Clinic for severe pain in his shoulder due to nerve damage resulting from an attack of shingles.

On the first night at the hospital we were allowed to stay with Jenny. She was very frightened, plus it was snowing heavily and the roads were treacherous. Kim slept in a chair next to the bed while I was put up in a vacant side room. We were so grateful to be able to stay with her while she came to terms with the situation. Even so, the Walton Centre would like to do more.

The Home from Home Appeal is a major fundraising campaign which aims to provide relatives’ accommodation and rehabilitation facilities at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust. The appeal will also pay for extra facilities for specialised rehabilitation patients, including therapy gardens and gym equipment.

Jack would have been made up to see how brilliantly Jenny has been cared for at Walton.
