Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
Having run the "Virtual" London marathon in 2020 after the disruption caused by Covid, I am now running the London Marathon (in London!) on Sunday 2 October 2022 to again help raise money for the Silver Star Unit - the specialist high risk maternity unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital - which helps hundreds of families every year.
This will be my first (non-virtual) marathon, and your support will spur me on to make it through the many miles of training needed and onto the streets of London. I have been training for this since October 2019, so that's three years' worth of training just for one race!
If you are able to support me, or already have, a massive "thank you" for donating and for helping me to reach my target - it really means a lot personally and will of course make a massive and vital difference to those parents and babies who need the support of the Silver Star Unit in the future. Details of their current fundraising appeal are copied below, and you will see that money raised will go towards the funding of further vital equipment to monitor baby health:
The Silver Star Society, part of Oxford Hospitals Charity, has funded a new world-leading system to help monitor the health of the baby and detect potential distress, before the onset of labour. This is based on computerised monitors (CTGs) that record and analyse the pattern of the babies' heat beats. The computerisation has been entirely designed and tested in Oxford for 40 years. Six of the very latest CTG machines have been funded by the charity - which also hopes to fund a further two at a cost of £10,000. The monitors are mobile, which means they can be taken to the bedside. In addition to the fetal monitoring, several of these state of the art machines can also provide a facility for monitoring maternal observations. In a world first, all the computerised monitors are linked so that the information gathered can be viewed across all areas of the hospital and continuously checked to maintain and improve diagnostic accuracy.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
