Story
Me, my family and friends are taking part in the 2023 Walk of Life to raise funds for the RUH Bath because we are grateful for all the help given to me from the staff at the hospital to help get me the all clear from cancer.
I was diagnosed with lymphoma about a year a go after I found a hard lump on my neck and soon after started chemotherapy at the RUH. The diagnosis was initally really hard to cope with but I was amazed by how positive my doctors (Dr Robson and Dr Cox) were about everything. That, and the constant support from Eleanna and my boys, really helped me stay positive in the months following my diagnosis. The nurses on the chemotherapy ward (Shiela, Andy, Harrison) were very friendly, worked tirelessly and always had a smile on their face! From there I moved onto radiotherapy where the staff were equally friendly although much briefer as the treatment was very quick and efficient. Finally, this February I got the news I had been waiting for and my lymphoma is in remission.
I know that many of the things that I found so helpful whilst I was being treated would not be possible to fund without donations to charity... I regularly talked to the mental health nurses (shout out to Theresa) who come round whilst you are doing your chemotherapy and radiotherapy and it really helped me to cope with my problems and sometimes get all the emotions out. The super comfy chairs that the chemotherapy suite have would not be there without donations and this really helps when you have to spend 6 hours sitting there feeling sick. These are just a couple of examples of how your donations help to improve the experience of everyone on the ward.
Please donate or even join the walk and help us fundraise! We will all need our local hospital for help at some point in our lives and it is important that we help make it as good as it can possibly be for all the people who need it!
