Story
On June 20th myself and some chums are doing a 25 mile walk in North Yorkshire. The idea is that we're going to compete against other teams to get around the challenge route in the best time. While not exactly like going up Everest, the route does include three peaks: Penn-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. As a team, we get points for the quickest team time, the best team photo on one of the peaks, the most money raised, and most corporate sponsorship. The team with the most points gets their sponsorship money doubled by De La Rue, who are kindly supporting the challenge.
We're raising money for Macmillan. Please help!! It's a really great organisation that makes sure that anyone with cancer doesn't have to face it alone.
I'm doing this challenge in memory of my Uncle Jack. He was living with cancer and we were in his hospice room together. Gently helping him out of his chair, I helped him walk slowly around his room. Back in his chair he said "Not exactly the Olympics, but pretty good". I couldn't help laughing. He was still making me smile and inspiring me by doing and seeing the positive. What a truly great bloke! He inspired me to help people living with cancer, which I did professionally for nearly ten years, and I'm doing this walk in his memory - in a part of the world not too far from his home - an area he loved.
