Story
Thank you for visiting this page and considering sponsoring me.
I'm running my first 'ultramarathon' - a 100km road race on Jeju island, South Korea, where I live, to raise money for the PSPA (http://www.pspassociation.org.uk/).
On the 3rd of this month my grandmother, Beryl Hefford, died. She had been suffering from progressive supranuclear palsy for some time and been unable to speak, eat or move by herself for over a year. This little-understood disease is characterised by the progressive death of nerve cells in the brain, leading to difficulty with balance, movement, vision, speech and swallowing. Your sponsorship will help the charity provide help and support for those living with PSP and fund research into the cause, treatments and hopefully, eventually, a cure for PSP.
The event I have chosen is particularly appropriate as my grandfather, who was married to my grandmother for over 65 years and lovingly cared for her in the latter stages of her life, was a distance runner of some distinction in his day. He completed 118 marathons and 5 London to Brighton double marathons in his career. I hope, by completing the Jeju International Ultramarathon, I can honour my grandmother's memory and fund important research, and make my grandfather proud.
