Diabetes is a serious, chronic disease that shortens life and can lead to many serious complications including blindness, kidney failure, limb amputation, heart disease and stroke.
John Wilding, Professor of Medicine at the University of Liverpool, and Honorary Consultant Physician with an interest in Diabetes & Obesity at University Hospital Aintree will be taking part in the Outlaw triathlon on 26th July 2015, to raise money for Diabetes UK, the leading UK Charity for people with diabetes.
‘The Outlaw’ is no ordinary triathlon. It starts with a 2.4 mile swim in a lake, followed by a gruelling 112 mile bike ride through the Nottinghamshire countryside, and if that is not enough, finishes with a marathon run (the full 26.2 miles!). I expect this will take about 12 hours (hopefully less!) to complete.
I have competed in triathlons before, but never at this distance. I did run Manchester Marathon as a warm up / training event on April 19th, and the Gauntlet ( a ‘half-Iron' distance triathlon) on 28th June & hope to be ready by July 26th for the main event.
