I have Usher Syndrome which means I was born with a severe hearing loss and have a visual condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa also known as tunnel vision. This condition is progressive and eventually all useful sight and hearing will deteriorate. I want to see as many sights as possible before this happens.
I have been with Deafblind Scotland since 1999 and have been involved with many different projects over the years and watched it grow and reach out to many members across Scotland. We have been operating out of outdated buildings that are not really fit for purpose and accessible to our members so we have purchased a plot of land and now fundraising for the "Field of Dreams" to build a centre of excellence that is designed around the needs of dual sensory impaired people. At present we have raised £1 million of our target of £1.2 million and this wee adventure hopes to achieve £5000, even more would be amazing. Can you help us to make this dream possible?
I have managed to cajole a very brave and determined lovely young lady called Leah who works as a Guide/Communicator for Deafblind Scotland to come along with me. Guide/Communicators are the lifeline for deafblind people and act as their eyes and ears, enabling them to get around and communicate in a variety of ways to ensure deafblind people have the same rights to access as everyone else and to help them achieve the aim of seeking, " a society where deafblind people have the support and recognition necessary to lead fulfilled and active lives in which they can reach their full potential"
Leah will be acting as my eyes and ears on the trek and to make sure I don't attempt any death defying stunts! And of course to keep Paddington Bear who accompanied me to Machu Picchu last year from getting into any mischief or picking fights with his Grizzly cousins! Without the help of a Guide/Communicator it would not be possible for me to even consider taking part in these adventures to fundraise for Deafblind Scotland.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Deafblind Scotland gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support
Dig deep, remember we have to make sure Paddington has enough Marmalade sandwiches to see him through the trek!!
