Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Just over a year ago my sister-in-law, Laura Lane, passed away after a long and hard fought battle with sarcoma, a particularly unforgiving type of cancer. Last year I vowed to undertake two challenges to raise money in her memory, firstly raising money for the hospice she was in for the last few weeks of her life, when I completed a 10k run. Now, for my second challenge I have decided to up the ante and I am running the Bournemouth Half Marathon on 5th October to raise money for Sarcoma UK, which was the other charity Laura herself wanted to support during the last few months of her life.

It seems appropriate to run in Bournemouth because Laura spent so many years living in Poole, so close by, and attended church in Boscombe near Bournemouth. Indeed, we have fond memories of time spent with Laura on the beach near Bournemouth and occasional trips to her favourite Chinese restaurant there.

As I said last year, Laura was very much her own character and lived life to the full in her own particular way. Running was not something Laura ever really did much of in the time that I knew her, but if she had she would have have gone all out and probably signed up for the marathon! She certainly would have enjoyed being a part of the marathon festival weekend in Bournemouth, whatever level of involvement she may have had. So, I hope to do her memory justice by giving it my all in the half marathon in her "backyard" on 5th October, and by trying to raise up to £1400 for one of her favoured charities, Sarcoma UK, in her memory.

I know there are many demands for giving on all of us these days, so any money you can donate, whatever it may be, will be very greatly appreciated, not just by me, but by everyone who remembers Laura and also by the many people battling sarcoma right now.
