Story
Cancer affects everyone, with one in two people now diagnosed with some form of this destructive disease in their lifetime. It can decimate families and change lives forever.Established by Professor Robert Rees in 2008, the Centre has pioneered innovative approaches for diagnosing cancer better; for predicting how the disease will develop and respond to therapy; and for boosting the immunesystem to fight cancer, known as immunotherapy.Immunotherapy is an exciting and rapidly developing area that has the potential to significantly improve the management of cancer, helping patients live longer and healthier lives. The significant advances achieved by the Centre range from improving our understanding of how prostate cancer spreads around the body, to helping take critical steps in developing new treatments for breast, prostate, brain and blood cancers.
We are a group of students and we have been set the challenge to raise as much money for the John Van Geest Cancer research centre. To do this we have been given £50. This challenge has been set by the IOD. We will hold raffles and other activities to raise as much for charity.
Another idea our group have come up with is 'Candle for Cancer' this means that every time we receive a donation, we will light up a candle in memory of those who have been a victim of cancer. We will stack up each candle to show how many people have donated. No matter how many donations you make, we will light up a candle so that donators know that their donation is going to a good cause.
We will use Instagram and Facebook to record when a candle has been lit as a result of your donation. This means your name will be featured on an Instagram or Facebook post every time you've made a donation.
We aim to spread the word through social media so please follow and share our page to try and make as many donations as possible! :)

If you donate, please leave a message with your Instagram name or full name if you want to be a part of our Instagram post however you can also choose not to give a name if you're not comfortable with it
