Story
Some of you may not know but I was knocked sidewards by a still unknown respiratory condition on New Year's Day. As I recovered, the now infamous Covid pandemic struck us all. I am still waiting to confirm if that's what struck me down, but whatever it was, it had me very close to being placed on a ventilator in intensive care. The consequence of this has been I was then advised to shield for 4 months to protect myself from further complications.
So, I decided to take this time to get fit and strengthen my overall health. I needed inspiration....there was only one person to turn to, Doddie. For many years he inspired me in his rugby playing years, my every memory of him was playing with the broadest smile, giving his all and inspiring others around him. He would be the first to tell you he wasn't the most skilled, but he was streets ahead of others with guts and determination. He was also a true gentlemen on and off the pitch and when I now see him coping with MND, but still looking to help, motivate and encourage others, he is completely awe inspiring.
Now feeling stronger than I have for many years, my aim is to help his research foundation by completing the Great North Run, (Sunday 13th September). I would be so grateful if you could help me help him, by sponsoring my own personal race.
This year due to the Covid pandemic it has been organised so all runners complete the half marathon from their own homes, but compete in the race via a timed app we are all plugged into. It's a little different, but allows the event to take place and all the fantastic charity raising opportunities. In effect I'll be competing against myself, which brings me back to how I felt at the start of the year, because really the medical staff were the heroes, and indeed this time Doddie is the hero.
Please support me and the charity with whatever you can, as we are what will make the difference for all MND sufferers.
Thank you
