Story
My aim is try and raise awareness of Fragile X syndrome which is genetic condition which can cause a wide range of difficulties with learning, as well as social, language, attentional, emotional, and behavioural problems. See https://www.fragilex.org.uk/ for more information.
I first heard about Fragile X when my nephew Gael was diagnosed and our family was put through wider genetic testing and some of the emotional and psychological pressures that came with uncertain outcomes. We were lucky in that Fragile X was relatively contained in our family but Gael will need our ongoing support.
With that in mind I wanted to help where I could and when I saw an advertisement to join the board of trustees of the Fragile X Society, I applied and was delighted to be accepted.
The Fragile X Society aims to improve the lives of those affected by Fragile X and associated conditions by providing information and continued support to families and professionals they work with. Working together with those affected, the Society supports an inclusive community of people who understand the specific needs of Fragile X.
Boston will be my fifth World Marathon Major in an attempt to complete the series of six.
