Story
"After the guns have fallen silent, and the din of battle quietened, then the real fight begins! - HRH Prince of wales.
Once again, Team Shred is asking for your help to support this most worthy of charities in its gargantuan efforts to bring these wounded ex-servicemen and women back from the brink and into a fulfilling civilian life.
The four of us - Tom Cary and John MacKinnon (BPL Global), Ed Cornish (Nexus) and Katie Sparkes (AmTrust) will have the honour of participating in the 2017 Business Challenge in aid of Supporting Wounded Veterans / Skiing With Heroes, a UK-based charity supporting wounded ex-servicemen and women through a specially designed ski-based development, mentoring and job-finding programme.
The Challenge we face is to try to ski the longest distance possible over a 5.5 hour period, trying to get as close as we can to a maximum of 101.8Km! And also compete the following day in a Giant Slalom with the veterans!
The charity enables Veterans to regain lost confidence, rebuild their fitness and strength and with the help of the mentors (of which John is already one) to start to rebuild their lives and get back into regular employment/occupation. The skiing is just the start of an on-going rehabilitation relationship, a tool to act as an initial motivator, and we are privileged to be able to ski with these brave men and women and support the charity over this 2 day event.
Their focus remains very much on rehabilitation of wounded veterans and the past year has seen the successful establishment of the new pain clinic at King Edward VII Hospital, London which has been the primary goal since the charity was established in 2013. It's success has just been officially recognised with LIBOR funding from Her Majesty's Government for over £500,000 which now fully establishes the clinic and it's team as a centre of excellence in the rehabilitation of wounded veterans. The new pain clinic provides much needed support post medical discharge from service. With your further support we can aim to increase the numbers of veterans who can benefit directly from access to its facilities.
The charity is continuously seeking funding to expand its support base and this years' ski weekend will focus on both financing the expansion of the clinic and other existing programmes.
Over the past two years, you have helped our little team to raise almost £30,000 and the charity has been so incredibly thankful to all of you.
We kindly ask once again for your donation toward the great endeavours of this noble charity.
With best wishes,
Team Shred
