Story
I am looking to do my first ever race and thought that as it was so close to my Step dads one year anniversary of his passing then there would be no better race to take part in than the Great North Run.
Rob was a genuinely nice man who would do anything for anybody; unfortunately in September 2012 he passed having suffered with various forms of cancer. Now anybody who has lost a loved one to cancer knows this is a deeply distressing time for friends and family. This is why I feel compelled to run for "Help the Hospices" the level of treatment and care provided to my step dad during his final days was nothing short of unbelievable. They ensured he passed with dignity and was as pain free and comfortable as possible, this made this very sad time much more bearable for me and my family for which I will be eternally grateful.
Having witnessed this 1st class level of palliative care it made me realise how important it is that hospices get the deserved level of funding they require to ensure that more people get to see their loved ones pass in a comfortable and peaceful environment.
So I guess this is where I get to ask for your help, times are hard and money is tight for all, all I ask is that you spare anything you can afford no amount is too small and will be appreciated greatly. Without sponsorship places like "Willow Wood" would not be able to offer the level of palliative care they do. I genuinely hope nobody has to go through what my family did, but if they do I hope they get to do so in such a dignified and comforting way as we did.
Thanks for your support
John
