Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am looking to complete a few endurance events this year with the collective aim of raising as much money as I can for a charity close to my heart, Combat Stress. Help for Heroes and other such worthy charities are doing great work for our injured servicemen and women but I know of no other charity that is helping the increasing number of our soldiers suffering with unseen, mental injuries. I have come across a small number of very brave men and women who have suffered in this regard as a result of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan but, as the Combat Stress website suggests, I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Why Combat Stress exists:
Combat Stress is the leading charity specialising in the care of British Veterans who have been profoundly traumatised by harrowing experiences during their Service career.
Many Veterans leave the Armed Forces with highly debilitating conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety disorders. Their problems can remain masked for years, and they and their families may be struggling to deal with matters at home. Combat Stress is able to provide two integrated services to meet Veterans' needs:
- Dedicated, short-stay clinical treatment
- Community outreach
We are receiving 1,000+ new referrals a year – and already have more than 4,300 ex-Service men and women in our care.
Combat Stress looks after Veterans of every campaign that British Forces have been involved in since the Second World War. This includes over 400 of recent operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Challenge
My aim is to finish the following this year:
Jun - Bala Middle Distance Triathlon 1.3 mile swim, 50 mile (hilly!) bike and 13 mile run
August - UK Ironman. 15 hours (or hopefully less...) to complete 2.6 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run.
It's going to be emotional!
Any donation, no matter how great or small will be hugely appreciated - and will make a difference to people who deserve it. Many thanks.
