Story
Hi there.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
On Sunday October 25, I was in Carlisle, taking part in the Great Cumbrian Run half marathon.
As with last year, I crossed the line in last place, with a time of 4 hours and 48 minutes, but this was immaterial - at the end of the day, I know that I have completed back to back Cumbrian Runs, and that is good enough for me. Period.
I know that the money I have raised so far will allow more people can be prevented from this dreadful disease.
In February 1996, my sister, Terena, succumbed to cancer in 1996 at the age of just 20. She really was a sister in a million and I still miss her terribly to this day. There were times during the race when the thought of "bailing out" crossed my mind, but the memory of her kept me going - I'd have let her down, everyone down & above all, myself down had I dropped out.
In addition, my uncle - whom I’ve always looked up to as a “big brother” - continues to be in remission following his battles with cancer, though he still has regular checkups.
I am still open for any "late" donations via this page. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Cancer Research UK and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I therefore would be fundamentally grateful if you could sponsor me for Cancer Research UK.
Many thanks to one & all who have donated.
John Hastings.
