Story
Cammy Gilbertson arrived into the world on 18th March 2015 to the delight of his parents Grant and Debbie and adoring brother and sister Connor and Chloe. If his diagnosis with Down’s Syndrome was not a big enough challenge for Cammy and his family, he was also diagnosed with an atrioventricular septal defect, which is a serious and potentially life threatening heart defect.
At the tender age of 7 months, Cammy endured more than 8 hours of open heart surgery at Glasgow New Royal Hospital. Cammy spent a total of 19 days in hospital which was a major stress on both Cammy and his family, however thanks to the wonderful care they received at Ronald McDonald House, this burden was significantly decreased. Ronald McDonald House is a modern and amazing facility located a few minute walk from the hospital. They are the UK's leading provider of free family accommodation at NHS hospitals.
To spare Cammy’s parents the ordeal and expense of travelling from their home in Edinburgh each day to be with Cammy, Ronald McDonald House provided them with a private room so they could be at Cammy’s side 24/7.
In 2015 Ronald McDonald House supported 360 families with children in hospital to say we are extremely grateful and indebted to this organisation is an understatement. As a result we would like to repay that kindness and support this amazing charity.
