Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As most of you will know myself, Allan Drever and Karl Sandison are going to be attempting the 3 peaks challenge on the 17/08/13. In undertaking this challenge we are each fundraising for three very different charities, mine is MND Scotland. I just want to give people a brief insight into the challenge we are attempting and my reasons for choosing MND Scotland.
Right, first for the challenge! Me and Allan have been speaking now about doing a fundraising challenge for a few years now, but i'm afraid none of us could ever be considered as the most organised of people hence it never happened! It took Karl to get involved this year to finally get things organised, so a huge thank you must go to him for finally putting this all together. So on to the challenge itself, the challenge is to climb the 3 highest peaks on mainland Britain within a 24hr period. These are Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell pike in England and Snowdon in Wales. The original idea was to do this challenge over a 5 day period, but Allan in his wisdom thought this wasn't enough of a challenge?! So it's changed to the same challenge over the 24hr period. I think this was probably a good decision, as i think if people are donating good money then firstly the cause has to be a good 1, but also i believe that the challenge undertaken, or the fundraising event, must be worthy of earning peoples money, which hopefully this challenge is.
Right now on to the charity. MND Scotland is probably not a very familiar charity to most of you and i must admit it's not a charity i was overly familiar with either, however motor neurone is an illness i'm afraid i'm all too aware of. For those of you who aren't familiar with MND (Motor Neurone Disease) then you can click the link on this page to MND Scotland's home page. There you'll find some great information on the illness and on the great work they do to support people who have MND. Just a brief bit of info on the disease for those who don't know:
It's a fatal neurological illness
Causes symptoms including paralysis, loss of speech, impaired eating and drinking and breathing difficulties
Intelligence and memory are not affected in most cases
There is no cure
Average life expectancy with the disease is 2-5 years
And unfortunately as i said before i am all too aware of this illness as i have had first hand experience. I unfortunately lost my dad to this disease at a young age and, as you can imagine it's something i've never been able to get over. To see this horrible illness take someone you love is something no one should have to go through. That is why i want to give my support to MND Scotland because they do great work in supporting sufferers and their families and also contribute funding for research. I hope you can get behind me because your donations, big or small, can make a real difference.
