Story

Our Story

Like many of you I had heard of The Beatson and knew of friends, colleagues mums, dads, brothers, and sisters who have all been diagnosed with some type of cancer and had to attend The Beatson for life saving treatment. I had never given it much more thought than that, until now. The Beatson has now became a place that a family member of mine has had to attend personally and Zoë and Lynsey's dad attended 12 years ago.

It devastated me to find out in early 2017 that my dad was diagnosed with bladder, throat and bowel cancer. Our lives and his were about to dramatically change when he became another patient of The Beatson, continuously fighting his own personal battle on a daily basis while he underwent an intensive course of radiation and other procedures, which took months to fully recover from. Followed up with years of appointments and treatments never knowing if the cancer will return...

After sitting in the hospital with my dad, it hit me that even if you are not the one undergoing treatment, you, your friends and your family are all affected by cancer in some way. We need to come together to help raise as much money as possible for research, for treatments and to allow all the wonderful teams at The Beatson to continue the fantastic work they do on a daily basis, not only supporting patients but also the family members affected.

On a positive note, he has never been left to battle this alone, he will be fighting along with the support of his family and while he has beaten all 3 different cancers, he still has a long journey ahead! This is why we are now asking for your support.

In 2019 we were very honoured to have been asked to help promote and raise awareness for OTBT. Myself, Zoë and the kids were invited to a photoshoot with the Beatson’s mascot Bella and the pictures will be used for social media, the website and a huge banner next to the M8.

This felt particularly special and sentimental since, thankfully there are many success stories to come out of the Beatson, some, sadly lose their fight with cancer. Last year marked 11 years since Allan, Lynsey & Zoë’s dad,  passed away after a tough fight with Pancreatic cancer. He also attended the Beatson for chemotherapy and care. This makes it all the more important to raise funding for research and treatment.  This walk will be done in loving memory of him.

So we ask you all, please, give generously in whatever way possible no matter how large or small and let's beat this together!
