My son Andrew died from cancer shortly before his 16th birthday in 2003. There were no specialist care centres in Scotland at that time for teenagers and young adults with cancer, so we looked after Andrew at home for a year until he passed away.
Teenage Cancer Trust now provides that specialist hospital care in Scotland and throughout the UK, and my family has been raising funds for the charity since 2003 in memory of Andrew.
Teenage Cancer Trust is the official charity for the 2018 London Marathon, and the charity has invited me to take part as one of their 'Legends'. I've turned 60; I haven't run for over 10 years; and my knees are knackered - so of course I said "yes" - on condition my old buddy Roger Carter can join in the fun!
Roger is now a state-sponsored full-time athlete (i.e. retired) but I've got quite a challenge on my hands to try and get into some kind of shape to get my old bones round 26.2 miles within 8 hours. Please help spur us on by sponsoring us, and help Teenage Cancer Trust continue to help young people in Scotland and across the UK in their battle against cancer.
