Story
All those with disabilities face more barriers and challenges than able bodied people rarely experience or understand. They have it unremittingly, so we hope our small efforts bring some relief and can fund or support the systemic change required to bring more fair rights for those with disabilities in the UK.
Running was hugely important to us for our mental and physical
wellbeing during lockdowns and we are grateful to be able to do so. Not all can.
That’s why running for this cause feels so highly relevant.
Disability Rights UK is the UK’s leading organisation directed and run by Disabled people.
Our Vision is of a society where Disabled people have equal power, rights and equality of opportunity.
We campaign for the rights of all Disabled people to be included in every aspect of life, and our work is more vital now than at any time. Disabled people have had hard-won rights curtailed or even removed during the Covid pandemic, the most serious manifestation of which was the placing of ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ notices on people without their knowledge, much less consent. The cost of living crisis is exacerbating the struggle many Disabled people have to live with choice and dignity.
We bring the lived experiences of Disabled people to everything we do, and we will campaign for our rights as long as we need to, until we achieve a society which is just, fair and equal for all.
