Story

Thanks for visiting my page!

Last year I decided to sign up to do something totally scary and challenging. I am doing Leg 8 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, sailing from New York via Bermuda to Derry and then on to London.

Clipper is the brainchild of Sir Robin Knox-Johnson, the first man to sail solo non stop around the world.

11 identical racing yachts with a 20 strong crew left the U.K. on Sunday 30th August 2019 from St Katherine’s Docks in London and will return a year later. I'm hopping aboard in America in June 2020, returning home sometime in August.

I have been training since last April in The Solent (the strip of water between England and the Isle of Wight) and also in french waters and it’s brilliant! Training is some of the most physically and mentally demanding stuff I’ve ever had to do. It’s crazy how hard you have to work! I've met a lot of interesting people along the way.

I found out recently that our boat sponsor is HALONG BAY in Vietnam! The race will stop there on the next race (not this one). My skipper is JOSH STICKLAND and I feel so lucky to be on his team - he’s a well seasoned sailor and so is Frenchman Hugo (the Skippers mate)! My team represents 15 different nationalities and our ages range from 23 to someone in their 70s!! We all have something in common - we’re a little nutty!

When I’m racing I’ll have little to no contact from home. I'll be working on a 4 hour watch system, burning around 6,000 calories a day, sleeping at a 60 degree angle and witnessing waves of up to 20 meters! Its not going to be easy - but it will be worth it!

Clipper's charity partner for the 3rd year running is UNICEF. UNICEF provide 80% of the world's life-saving food, making sure that children grow up healthy, happy and strong.

I'll be doing a few Fundraising events to raise money for UNICEF.....I'd like to raise at least £500. This will pay for 20 malnourished children to have a pack of high energy peanut based food, which can bring them back to health in 4-6 weeks. Remarkable!
