John's New York Marathon page

New York Marathaon · 6 November 2022
Late last year I ran Barcelona marathon with my sister in law, Jo and a friend, Ian. Both Jo and Ian decided to run New York Marathon on the plane home. I was less keen on the idea, its expensive to get a place and I achieved my sub 4 hour time in Barcelona. So didn't think I'd have the motivation to do the early morning runs and long runs etc.
Then I heard the bombshell news about one of the most energetic, enthusiastic people I know at work, Andrew Herbert, our CTO, had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This stunned and baffled me how someone so fit, active and my age could be struck by this horrible disease.
So I have made the decision to run the New York Marathon on 6 November to try to raise money for MND, as I know this will keep me motivated on my 500 mile plus training schedule. If you could donate that would be fantastic, I know Andrew and the team at MND will be super grateful. All money raised goes to MND, I've paid for my own marathon place and travel.
First land mark training run completed Great North Run (half marathon) in 1 hour 53 mins, not my fastest half but it was super tough and all the sponsorship really drove me on. There is a picture on here to prove i finished!
Training was going great until last week (16/10) when I got a bit of an injury, so rest and physio for me. Not aiming for a PB and I’ve got the motivation of supporting MND and how lucky I am.
I’ve done 50 plus training runs and covered over 450 miles, including a few 20 plus long runs so I should be ok to get round. The race is on Sunday 6 November, my race number is 34635.
There is a video on my LinkedIn page from Andrew explaining the work of MND, he is the reason I’m doing this.
