Story

First and foremost, thanks for coming this far, we appreciate your time taken out to read and hopefully donate for our charity.

The idea to swim three miles each at the local swimming pool came about at the beginning of the year when Dave and I Began swimming, Dave started doing it because he had a knee operation and the exercise helps his knee considerably, he then asked me to join him as I did a bit of swimming before university and so started again for fitness sake. Every week we could hear the hesitation in each other’s voices as we made each other continue to punish our bodies and watch 0.A.P’S pass us by with the slightest of ease. We did this for a number of weeks before I made the suggestion of swimming a certain distance for a charity. A goal which at the same time would turn us into trained athletes whilst raising money for a worthy cause. After much deliberation we agreed on swimming a healthy 3 miles for St Luke’s Hospice on the set date of the 9th of Oct, 2009.

The choice was made easy as we both know people who have been looked after in the care of trained and selfless nurses at the St Luke’s Hospice in Basildon, . The work they do there is phenomenal, they care day and night to make the poorly feel comfortable in a warm and friendly environment with no charge to the patients or their families for any of the services provided. Without the generosity of businesses, clubs, organisations and individuals they wouldn’t be able to continue to provide a quality and much-needed care service.

With this in mind we have stuck fast to swimming 2 miles twice a week or more for months in order to shed the pounds and make the prospect of completing this crazy feat more and more likely. With an article done in the paper and donations slowly building up, I hope we can raise and even beat our original target of £1000. When you read this page, please spread the word, the more people who know about this the better, we hope you can support our cause and help the people in St Luke’s Hospice.

Thank you again for taking the time to read this page, we understand times are hard at the moment so anything you can donate no matter or small will be much appreciated and it will make a big difference, thank you.
