Story
On December 14th 2020 it will be a year since my amazing grandson, Joey, was taken from us. Joey was diagnosed with DIPG on 19th September last year and our lives have not been the same since that day. All we have left now are memories and photos. When Joey was diagnosed we were informed, like all the other children's families, there are no known survival cases - there was no hope of a cure. No Hope. Although in some cases the treatment to prolong life is effective, in Joey's case it was not. We spent every minute we could making the memories we now treasure and treating Joey like the Superhero he is but devastatingly, in less than three months since he was diagnosed Joey lost his brave battle. I am walking from Faversham to Margate to raise money for a charity that helps to fund research into DIPG. The more research there is, the more chance there is for a different outcome for other children and to give their families what ours could not have. Hope.
As it is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Joey was diagnosed a year ago I wanted to raise awareness of DIPG and raise money for Abbie's Army who are the ONLY UK based charity who raise money purely for DIPG and finding a cure.
Next year Abbie's Army will co-fund the first UK clinical trial for CAR-T therapy in DIPG. With all our support we have a chance to make a difference.
For more information on all of their research and actions please visit:

.The walk will be starting at Faversham Market Square at 7am, we will be taking the coastal footpaths going along to Seasalter, Whitstable, Tankerton, Herne Bay, Reculver, Minnis Bay, Birchington along to Margate Seafront finishing at the Tate Gallery.
Everyone is welcome to come along and support me and my fellow walkers, Either by joining the whole walk, a portion of the walk or for a drink stop at one of the pubs on route.
Anything you can donate would mean so so so much to us as a family to help towards making a difference for the future, we know it wont change our story but it could for other families
Thank you all xx
