I (with my friend Neil) have completed the cycle from the English Channel to the Mediterranean (La Manche to Med): going over some spectacular lumpy bits in the middle (the Auverne and Ardeche and even Mt Ventoux); catching up on Church and Roman architecture; bird and tree spotting; and camping most of the way - 830 miles - like doing Lands End to John o Groats but with much better wine, goats cheese and pain aux chocolat.   A fantastic way to see wonderful parts of a beautiful country.

Your immense generousity, provided extra impetus to my legs as I pushed up the hills and has stopped this feat this being entirely self-indulgent.  Your donations to the Disasters Emergency Committee's East Africa Appeal will really make a difference to their vital work.
