We are raising money for Widening Participation. This initiative offers disadvantaged young people the opportunity to improve their prospects by gaining qualifications and experience in sports coaching. Students from the University of Leicester will have the opportunity to coach young people from the local community and act as role models. Not only will this help them to realise their own potential but will also help to raise the aspirations of the young children they meet.
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
We have decided to set out on an adventure of a lifetime. On April the 1st we are setting out to do a thru-hike across the USA. The proposed national scenic trail links existing trails and zigzags across the continental divide at least 450 times. In total we will traverse five states, twenty-five national forests and three national parks, including Yellowstone and Glacier NP. We will trek from the Mexican border to the Canadian border and cover more than 3100miles (5000km)
We are hoping to raise £5,000, or one pound for every kilometre of our journey! All of the costs of our journey, including our plane tickets, equipment and provisions, have been covered by us. This means that all the money we raise will be shared between our chosen good causes.
Only about two hundred people a year attempt to hike the entire trail, taking about six months to complete it. We are going to attempt to do it in 5 months. That is an average of 20 miles per day... EVERYDAY!
