Story
Joel runs the Bath Half! (with a bit of help from John and Brian)
On 26 July 2009 our daughter Eleanor was born at the RUH in Bath. She was 5 weeks early, and although she was beautiful, she had a few problems that meant she needed to stay in the NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit) for 9 days.
The space was tiny, very hot and crowded with babies, parents and staff, but the care Eleanor received and the support given to us was incredible. We were lucky enough to be able to spend 3 days in a purpose built flat as a family, and with the NICU staff just across the corridor, we were able to prepare for going home together safe in the knowledge that they were on hand should we need their help (which we did!)
We would like to support the campaign to build a new intensive care unit so that more new families can benefit from improved parent accommondation, so children and parents can have a little room to themselves to get to know each other and to ensure the staff get the space and technology they deserve to care for all the babies coming through their doors.
