Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm running the Ultra Trail South West 100 mile race on the 21st June 2013. This is a huge undertaking for me!  The event is totally off road on rugged trails, coast paths and open moorland. I've never run anywhere near this far in one go before and I'm now 57 years old.

The race starts in Cornwall at Polruan on the south coast at six in the evening. I then head east to Looe on the South West Coastal Path ( very hilly! ). Here I head inland on the Smugglers Way going across Bodmin Moor all the way to Boscastle on the north Cornish coast. On this section I will be running through the night with a head torch! I then follow the South West Coast Path on past Tintagel then past Padstow for the remaining sixty miles until I reach the finish at Watergate Bay. Jane, my wife, will be meeting me in the car at various locations through the night to keep me fed & watered - being a vegan I cannot be sure of any food being ok for me at any of the checkpoints. I've got 36hrs to complete the race!

I'm running for Hope Rescue. This is the charity Jane & I volunteer for as a Foster Home & a Fund Raising team member.                             Hope Rescue commit to saving every dog from two Council Pounds in South Wales on their "due date" - the seventh day at which point if the kennel is needed for a new stray the dog ( whether a puppy/ elderly/ healthy/sick/large or small ) would be destroyed. At this point Hope Rescue step in and place the dog in one of their nationwide team of foster homes, persuade a rescue with a non destruct policy to take the dog in or as the last resort pay for emergency kennelling until a safe place can be found for the dog to wait for their 'forever home'. Some months this has cost over six thousand pounds and what with huge veterinary costs means we are always busy raising these critical funds.

Bob & April pictured with me would probably not now be alive if Hope Rescue did not exist.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please help me in this mammoth undertaking and donate!  £5 keeps a dog safe in the emergency kennels for one night but some dogs are there for a lot longer. Feeling that I will let  Hope Rescue down is what's going to keep me going!
