Story
This is one of the toughest but possibly the most exhilarating adventures I will ever embark upon.
And I’m doing it with my Dad, Jimmy Edmonds and co-founder of The Good Grief Project. (he’s 73 BTW)
Mt Kilimanjaro in East Africa is 5895 metres above sea level and together with eight other fantastic Good Grief supporters, we will attempt to climb above the sea of clouds to reach the summit. In the process we will have crossed six ecological zones from lush rainforests to arid deserts and experienced temperatures from 35*C at the bottom to -25*C at the top. And then there’s the altitude and the low oxygen levels that can caused serious headaches and nausea. So it’s no walk in the park.
What will keep us going is the memory of my brother Joshua. (He died in 2011 aged 22). But just as importantly it’s a challenge in support of other bereaved parents and siblings who benefit from the work of The Good Grief Project. So it’s a fundraising challenge and all money we raise will help bereaved families on low incomes attend our Active Grief Weekends. These residential retreats are especially designed to support bereaved parents and siblings who have experienced the death of a child (of any age). The aim is to help them find new and creative ways of expressing their grief.
It costs around £14,000 to put on each weekend and while some parents can contribute to the cost (usually £250-£300 a head) we want to make them available to all, especially those on low incomes. And every pound you can spare will help us provide valuable support for those who grieve for what many would describe as their worst nightmare, the death of a beloved son or daughter.
Thank you so so much ...
