Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.

You might have already heard I was lucky enough to be allocated a place for the London Marathon and will be running the 26.2 miles on 25th April.  I ran the New York marathon in 1999 and finished in around 4 hours 15 minutes - this time the goal is 3 hours 30 minutes (subject to the older legs being able to handle the miles).

To be honest when I found last October I would be in the race I had no initial thoughts about running on behalf of a charity. But then things changed completely.  In the same month I received my race acceptance my Mum became very unwell and after some tests we were all given the very unexpected and frightening news that she had an inoperable brain tumour.

This was a massive shock for the whole family but since then my Mum has shown a tremendous amount of bravery and positivity in facing her diagnosis, repeated treatment and constant tiredness.  Although it is her wonderful character and resiliance that keep a smile on her face, the hard work and professionalism of the team at the Royal Marsden have played a huge role in offering reassurance, guidance and most importantly the best treatment available.

Having seen the positive impact made on so many patients, not least my Mum, I would be very grateful for any sponsorship you can give in support of the Royal Marsden's cancer campaign (http://www.royalmarsden.org/Campaign/Home/).  It would mean a lot to me to give something back.

Many thanks
Joe
