Story
The Martlets Hospice has been close to my family since 2007 when they cared for my Grandad. As many of you will be aware, my mum was passionate about raising money for them, participating in two "Ladies Midnight Walks" as well as donating to their shops.
I now reluctantly have to tell you what they did for us. From her very first meeting at home with a Macmillan Nurse mum was treated as an individual, not a "patient". During the next few months The Martlets gave mum support, regular appointments with familiar nursing staff, "treats" like reflexology & aromatherapy massages and most importantly to myself and my sister they made her feel safe.
When the time came for mum to be admitted to the inpatient unit, their care then reached out to us, offering my sister and I everything from emotional support to making us toast and a cuppa at 2am. The outstanding quality of nursing and professionalism in palliative care they offered enabled us to spend a very precious and peaceful 11 final days with our mum.
I know in these times it is tough to "spare" any money, but if you feel you are able to sponsor me it will be very much appreciated and you will be helping a very worthy cause that has to find 70% of its funding through charity fundraisers – that’s over £3,000,000 per year!
My target is to raise £400.
