Arthritis attacks what it means to live and people with arthritis are often left to manage alone.Versus Arthritis invests in breakthrough treatments, the best information and vital support for everyone affected by arthritis. Please sponsor me so that together we can overcome the pain, isolation and fatigue of arthritis.

My story is about my Amazing Dad who passed away suddenly in 2019 age 60.

My Dad was a man who loved his Family dearly, he also lived for farming and especially loved harvest season.
My Dad always put so much passion into his work caring for the animals and working the land. He was a brilliant Digger driver aswell and He also enjoyed doing up vintage Tractors in his spare time. He always involved me and my brother in everything he did, I remember when I was little going to work with him couldn't wait for the weekends to go down to the farm, he Truely was and Incredible Dad in every way possible.

I will now share when and how Arthritis effected my Dad.

Sadly at the age of only 20 when he was having bad pain in his hand after some nodules appeared he was sent for a blood test revealing rheumatoid ,psoritic and osteo, arthritis gradually over time the disease spread throughout his body causing him terrible pain . Over time the damage the disease was causing was very obvious his hands became closed ,his hip needed replacing ,swelling of joint everywhere ,his neck became very swollen and fused ,the bones in his feet began to drop causing terrible pain in his feet .His joint became disfigured and very swollen.
Another thing people dont mention about arhtritis is the infection caused by swelling and the skin breaking down my Dad suffered ulcers on his legs & some really nasty infections , including sepsis He learnt new ways of doing things his best gadget was his handy hand but the disease took away anything normal he couldnt use a cooker as he lost his grip so it wasnt safe ,even opening a can became impossible .Getting into a car was so difficult for him ,he would be in agony even on short journeys he would avoid travel as much as possible . Occupational therapist would come in and alterations were done to the home he had a wet room installed ,a hospital bed with an air mattress .rise and recline chair to help him into a standing position and various other gadgets .My dad would avoid going anywhere because he became very concious of people starring at him due to the way he looked which he found very hard.

My wonderful dad lost his life suddenly at the age of 60 from a heart attack we are devasted by his loss, He has left a massive hole in our family and we miss him so deeply ,he had a wicked sense of humour, beautiful smile , a devoted Husband Father and Grandad ,even through his suffering he had a zest for life and had so much he wanted to see ,we will never forget our hero DAD.

Life is very cruel try and live it to your best with kindness ,caring and DETERMINATION.

Thank you for taking the time to read my Dads story. This is just a small part of his life but I hope it gives you and idea in how much this awful disease effects people this is why we need to help Arthritis UK.

The past 2 year have been very hard without my Dad and I feel this will give me something positive to focus on while raising money for this charity In his memory.

So please donate even if it's small amount everything counts.

Thank you

Jodie
