Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have chosen to raise money for Poole NICU, after my twins Hunter and Carter, spent a long and difficult 72 days in their care.
I unexpectedly went into labour at 27+4 weeks pregnant on 26/02/2017. I initially went to Poole with mild contractions and was given immediate care to try to slow down/stop the labour but also given medication to help the boys if the labour progressed to giving birth. Very shortly after I was rushed to Southampton Hospital where I was immediately taken in to theatre for an emergency C-Section as both babies were breech.
We spent just over a week in Southampton and were then transferred back to Poole where the boys stayed for the remainder of their NICU journey. Right from the moment we set foot in Poole NICU we felt comforted and confident that the boys were in good hands.
Our journey was extremely rocky, and we experienced a lot of set backs with their health and progression. It was soul destroying to have to leave our babies each night and not be able to take them home or even stay at the hospital with them. Nothing can take away that pain, worry and a million other emotions that all parents with children in NICU go through, but the staff at Poole NICU did everything to help ease it.
We can not begin to thank the staff enough for giving the most professional yet caring care to our boys, and for being there for us as well as them. We got to know and love some of these legends and I really can't imagine how our time there would have been without them.
These people are not rewarded enough for the work they do, the long hours they work, the amount they care and the extra mile they so often go. It is the most valuable professional anyone could make a career out of, and everyone at some stage of their life will need care from nurses, doctors, consultants etc.
I am going to run from Bournemouth to Boscombe pier and back 72 times, one for each day that they were in NICU. I will be doing this with Hunter and Carter as much as possible, and I will be realistic in that 1. I've just had twins, my fitness isn't what it once was, so to start with it may be more of a jog, and 2. As life with twins is super busy, this may not be 72 consecutive days.
I know that your donations would be greatly received, and will also help spur me on for our runs each time!
I have shared pictures below of the boys when they were first born so you can see how far they have come. I will post little snippets of our journey regularly to give you an idea what life was like during the boys' NICU time.
