UPDATE 15/05/2023
Where to start, what an experience yesterday was!
We both completed our first full marathon in aid of MND and Tiny Tickers. To be a part of it, running alongside Kevin Sinfield & Rob Burrows was an honour.
It's been quite overwhelming the support we've recieved this last week with so many generous donations and inspiring messages along the way.
From the bottom of our hearts and Tiny Tickers we thank you all, we couldn't of done it without you!
Greatly appreciated, until next time...
Jodie & Luke
We will be closing this fundraiser on Sunday 21/05/2023 so could we kindly ask that any last donations be in before then. Thank you so much.
UPDATE 12/05/2023
Thank you so much to everyone's support and donations. The charity have been in touch and are equally delighted and blown away by everyone's generosity. Thank you so much.
UPDATE 11/05/2023
Final run this morning at 6:00am, massive thank you to all donations so far response has been unbelievable in less than 24 hours.
Myself and Luke are running the inaugural Leeds Marathon, not only as a challenge but to raise money for The Tiny Tickers Charity. This will be both of our Marathon Debuts and quite frankly have not enjoyed the 5:45am runs in the freezing cold rain but it is all for a great cause.
My son Israel was born in 2020 with an undetected heart condition (TAPVD) which should have been detected when he was in the womb at my wife's 20 weeks scan. Israel was born 15/12/20 and within hours of birth had to undergo a 9 hour long, life saving heart operation at Leeds LGI. My little warrior was in the PICU for 2 weeks over Christmas before being strong enough to be weaned of all machines and medications.
Tiny tickers is a charity that works with babies and young children like Israel who are born with congenital heart defects. The charity works to provide oximiter machines to maternity wards across the country which detect oxygen levels in babies bloods at birth. Very few hospitals across the country even have one of these machines on there maternity wards. Tiny tickers aims to work to provide more of these machines to prevent babies leaving hospitals with undetected heart conditions. We were extremely fortunate that Israel's heart defect was detected but only by chance of us questioning medical staff . If a oximeter machine was used this would have been picked up instantly. Many families don't get the opportunity to receive a diagnosis until its too late, but with the help of fund raising and charity events, we aim to help lower the number of babies leaving hospital in vulnerable states with sometimes unrecognizable and life threatening conditions.
This is great charity and it is really important that these conditions are detected before birth to ensure these little babies can be treated straight away and in hospitals equipped to deal with the issues
A baby is born with a serious heart condition every two hours in the UK and despite congenital heart disease being one of the biggest killers of infants, only around half of congenital heart defects are picked up during routine prenatal scanning. With your help we can provide a safety net for the 1,000 babies each year that leave hospital with their heart defect undetected, increasing detection rates, improving a baby’s chances of survival and long-term quality of life.
