Story
It's been a few years since I last fund-raised for a good cause, which at the time was for the London Air Ambulance who helped my brother after his motorbike accident...now, I've decided to fundraise for Sense, as similar to that last situation, I have seen how people close to me, and around me have been affected by what may be perceived as life 'restricting' disabilities, such as deaf-blindness.
I reflected recently on a dining experience I had before - one in which you dined completely in the dark. I remember at first being absolutely terrified, to not be able to see anything, not to know who was around you, or what was around you. For that brief period, as trivial as it may sound compared to all those that have to live everyday being affected in this way, I did feel somewhat isolated at being unable to enjoy something to it's full potential. However, the waiters and waitresses in this dining experience, carefully guided you as to what surrounded you, gave you advice and helped you immerse yourself in a different way within that situation - I was still experiencing it, just in a different way.
Sense is a charity that believes that no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, should be isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential.Their experts offer personalised support through their centres, holidays and short breaks, or in people’s own homes. They are here for everyone who needs them, for as long as they need them – providing early intervention for children, helping young people access education, and supporting the transition into adulthood and beyond.
Anything that you are able to donate, big, small or anywhere in between will mean so much!
Thank you for your support x
